The Dominican Republic has long been a favourite destination among holidaymakers from Europe and especially visitors from North America. What brings so many to the eastern side of Hispanola in their droves is the warmth of the locals, the sunshine and the pristine white sandy beaches. Add to that those beautiful beaches look out into the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean sea so it is no wonder
cheap holidays to the Dominican Republic continue to gain popularity. The island also has a large cosmopolitan capital city and a few national parks teeming with wildlife.
Holidaymakers visiting the Dominican Republic tend to stay on the south west coast in the popular resorts of Punta Cana and Bavaro. The southwest coast is packed full of wonderful all inclusives that are dotted along 30 miles of pristine coastline. Holidaymakers will know when they have arrived because they will be able to find everything they need on the touristy beaches, from a towel or umbrella to a wet suit and jestski. For hotel guests that want to get away from the tourist hordes a short trip north to El Macao is the answer. Uvero Alto also has a very nice beach but the popularity of the area may soon bring the developers in.
For a good excursion holidaymakers should head to the Parque Nacional Los Haitises where there are over 90 caves showcasing the art of the ancient Taino peoples who lived on the island before the arrival of European settlers. The park should definitely be visited when taking
holidays to the Dominican Republic as tourists will have the opportunity to photo the aquatic wildlife living in the vast mangrove swamps. The park is also home to over 100 species of Bird and is close to the picturesque Isla Saona and its four kilometre hiking trail.
An excellent hotel with instant access to the beach is the Costa Coribe Coral in Juan Dolio. The hotel has nice relaxing spa facilities and is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens where holidaymakers can take an afternoon walk. Hotel rooms come with views over the hotel’s tropical gardens or with spectacular views out to sea for a memorable and possibly very romantic holiday. For holidaymakers that have booked
cheap flights to Bavaro the Costa Coribe is just a 20 minute drive from Las Americas airport.
The capital city Santo Domingo is another place where holidaymakers can enjoy a daytrip or spend a couple of nights for a miniature city break. The sprawling metropolis is most unexpected for the capital city of an island and even has its own metro system so tourists can ride conveniently around the city’s attractions. The Zona Colonia was where the Spanish invaders first set up camp so there are some historical gems, including the oldest cathedral in the western peninsula. The Plaza de la Cultura has four of the city’s large museums and the beautiful National theatre.
